Ive done both.
Swiss cheezing the airbox will get you hot air when driving around town
(especially on hot days.) but on the freeway, it gets nice cool air and
sounds throaty too. (Which I think is the only real gain around town...
the real gain is in the freeway at speed.)

I did the mod like what Ryans page shows only I improved on it just a
little. I added an air scoop onto the 90 elbow fitting that directs more
air into the system. I mounted it with spring clips so that if I hit a
curb or anything low, the scoop will flex and not break. Also ive mounted
the 90 deg elbow a little high above the scoop inlet so any rain or water
doesnt get blown into the intake system, it will just run harmlessly
under the car. The ram air mod doesnt really do much in the effect of ram
air giving more power, but is does blow cool air onto the air filter
which is a good thing. The only bad thing is that when it rains, you run
the risk of dumping water into the intake system. Since ive swiss cheezed
my airbox (well, ive removed the whole bottom from the airbox so its not
really swiss cheezed is it...) the scoop acts to direct cool air at the
air filter. So far ive learned that when it rains, I get no H20 in the
intake system. (Ive checked it after driving thru a serious downpour at
speed.) The bottom of the filter did have some moisture droplets on it
but the fuel distributor was dry. Im sure some water did get into the
intake system but nothing to hurt the system. (besides, water injection
adds power!!Argh-argh-argh!!!)

Neither mod is hard to do.
