Hot stereo!

Quick question here. I have an 88 16V and a Pioneer DEH-425 CD player. I
bought it new (stereo, of course) and had no problems early on. Now, when
it's hot outside (meaning 80+ F.) the CD player won't work. Radio on it
always works and at night I have no problems whatsoever. I'm assuming that
in winter, I'll also have no problems all the time. Asked a guy at a
stereo shop and he thought that the car may generate a lot of heat in the
stock stereo location (where mine is installed). This seems strange to me
and I wonder whether it's not just a semi-defective stereo. The warranty
has expired on the unit so the manufacturer won't help me. Anyway, of the
3 Scirocco's I've owned, this is the only one to exhibit this strange
problem. Anyone else heard of something similar or is it just my stereo
itself? Thanks for any and all input.
