My friend has an '82 Rabbit. The oil light comes on intermittently,

from going off? I've never had this problem in my car, so I'm not sure
 what to do...

Has he checked oil psi with a gauge. Should be aleast 26psi at 2000rpm.
Has he changed the oil switches yet? Try the one at the filter first. That's
the one that trips the buzzer. Be sure your replacement switch is normally
open to ground at rest and is marked for 1.8bar.
Can give more to check if that doesn't help.
