$400 is a bit high for labor only. When I was checking around to see
what it would cost, I got lots of estimates. I was asking for clutch
replacement, rear crank seal, tranny input seal, pushrod bearing and
seal.....I had all my own parts.

>From an independent repair shop specializing in VWs in Lynnwood, WA:

$285 including resurfacing flywheel. This was the best price, and
where I would have gone if it hadn't had it blow on me.

$335 from an independant in Mt Vernon, WA:
This was the high estimate.

$313.50 from the VW dealer in Oak Harbor, WA:
This is where I was forced to go when the clutch blew. This was
$57/hr at 5.5 hours. Did not include flywheel resurfacing. I also
paid an extra 1 hour for replacing 3 of the motor mounts (They wanted
2 hour labor for the right side, which I'll do myself soon.)

Just some ideas of cost for those of you that I've noticed have
mentioned had slipping clutches. As you can see, if I had replaced
it BEFORE it blew, I could have saved a lot of money. I would advise
checking out local repair shops and trying to have it replaced before
you're stuck like I was.

Hope this helps some of you.
