My car did this the first night after I picked it up. I was told that it
was a new clutch. Drove it for a day, nothing hard even, met a friend with
a GTI and we took a couple of lights quickly :), then I went to shift gears
and nothing :(. I let the car cool down for about 10 minutes, then tried
again and I was able to limp home.

$500 later... Turned out the self adjusting clutch cable wasn't adjusting
properly, blew the brand new clutch.

Nothing like trying to explain to the wife why your brand new used car broke
less than 24 hours after picking it up. BTW I also fucked up the
transmission rods during the whole experience.
